Maastricht University acknowledges the challenges faced by students from refugee communities in accessing and succeeding in higher education. To support these talented learners, the UM Euregion Refugee Scholarship program offers tuition waivers for academic years to refugee students from the Meuse-Rhine Euregion who have been admitted to a master’s program at UM.

Maastricht University Euregion Refugee Scholarship

  • Purpose: Support refugee students in higher education by offering tuition waivers.
  • Eligibility: Refugee students admitted to a master’s program at Maastricht University from the Meuse-Rhine Euregion.
  • Benefits: Partial tuition waivers covering the difference between statutory and institutional tuition fees.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Nationality: Hold nationality outside the EU/EEA and be a refugee in Belgium or Germany.
  • Residency: Proof of residence in the Euregion.
  • Commitment: Sign a consent form agreeing not to move to the Netherlands and to commute to Maastricht University.
  • Admission: Apply for a full-time master’s program at Maastricht University for the 2024-2025 academic year (excluding Medicine and Physician-Clinical Investigator programs).
  • Admission Requirements: Meet the specific admission criteria of the UM master’s programme.
  • Education History: Have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Tuition Fees Award:
    • €16,000 – €2,314 = €13,686
    • €18,400 – €2,314 = €16,086
    • Tuition fees students: €2,314
  • Pre-academic Training: At a cost
